Let's experiment
In this page, you have the opportunity to make experiments and to find answers to "what-if" questions.
Here you are some suggestions that you can try out, among many others that you are free to try. Remember, however, that if you change everything drastically, the simulation may become unstable and the results will not be applicable to a real system.
- Give a different value to the gravitational constant.
Click on the "Globals" button and use the scrolling bar to change the value of G, making it slightly higher or lower. (Don't change it more than 10-20%, or the simulation may become unstable).
- Change the value of the mass of the Sun.
Click on the "Globals" button and use the scrolling bar to change the value of MS. (Don't change it more than 10-20%, or the simulation may become unstable).
- Change the velocity of the Earth.
Click on the "Earth" button and use the scrolling bar to change the value of XP0 and YP0.
- Inhibit one or more of the planets.
Click on the name of any of the planets and click on the box to the left of the word "Inhibit".
