The African savanna ecosystem
The following is a simulation of an ecosystem with fifteen different species, four of which are carnivore, six herbivore, two omnivore, and three primary producers.
For clarity, species are divided into several trophic chains:
- Chain 1 :
- Lion, Jackal, Rat, Locust and short grass.
Chain 2 : - Lion, Giraffe and Acacia.
Chain 3 : - Cheetah, Boar, Rat, Locust, and short grass.
If you experiment with chain 1 or 3, you will note that a rat plague takes place at the beginning of the simulation. After a while the species' populations reach a stable state.
